Welcome to Worcestershire and the Malvern Hills – the perfect setting for walking and hiking tours in and around this spectacular Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Black Pear Walking Tours offers self-guided walking and hiking tours in and around the beautiful Malvern Hills in Worcestershire and beyond…
The Malvern Hills are a range of hills in a protected Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the English counties of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and a small area of northern Gloucestershire. The highest point is the Worcestershire Beacon which looks east over the Severn valley, and west over the hills of Herefordshire and the Welsh mountains.
The hills are famous for their natural mineral springs and wells, which are found all around the hills, and also for the beautiful old gas lamps which remain in most of the area, now fitted with automatic timers by ‘The Gasketeers’ , but still giving a soft, gentle glow in the dark. Great Malvern itself was developed as a spa town in the 19th century as the spring water was said to have healing properties. Still today people, both locals and visitors fill up their containers with Malvern water at the many springs around the hills – the water famous for its purity ‘having nothing at all in it’. The hills are maintained and preserved by the Malvern Hills Conservators, the guardians of its uniquely enchanting and beautiful landscape.
Black Pear Walking Tours is based in Malvern, Worcestershire and most of the walks will pass through the hills at some point. The surrounding counties of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Shropshire all feature in some of the walks and contribute to the huge variety of English countryside which can be experienced on foot with our tours.
Black Pear Walking Tours is a family business run by the Campbell family. We have been walking in and around the Malvern Hills for 25 years now – joined recently by our dog Wizz!
